The Village Writers Workshops are a series of creative writing workshops based out of Southern Village in Chapel Hill. Limited to groups of 4 to 6 students, the workshops meet weekly for two hours. The workshops thus give students close attention from other writers in the group and from the workshop leader—novelist and longtime writing professor Dr. Katie Rose Guest Pryal.
Workshop participants work on any kind of narrative writing, from memoir to novels to short stories. The workshops focus on core features of storytelling that cross these genres: creating scenes, writing believable dialogue, building characters, and more. The environment is supportive and collegial.
If you are interested in joining the group, you can contact Katie to see if there is an opening. She is always happy to hear from new writers. You can also read the Village Writers Workshops welcome document that has all the details. Download a PDF.
