Letter #6: On Not Writing
:: We have books to start and books to finish.
:: We have books to start and books to finish.
:: Sometimes you can’t write. Taking care of yourself means putting the pen down.
:: Sometimes when the grass starts to look greener, you have to check around your own feet again.
:: The students are now the teachers. That’s a trip.
:: I wanted to be like that writer with the mason jars: soft-spoken, mysterious, drawing people nearer with kindness and wit. But I also wanted to be like you.
I was far more in awe of you than of the writers she would bring in. My inappropriate lack of authorial respect got us both in trouble. Sorry about that.
